Parrot Wizard at Ginger's Parrot Rescue Grand Opening Event for New Facility

I was invited to be the headline presenter at the Ginger's Parrot Rescue New Facility Grand Opening Event in Casa Grande Arizona. Ginger's Parrot Rescue is a 501c3 non-profit that specializes in Senegal Parrots, Cockatiels, and Small Birds.

Ginger used to run the rescue out of her house as the number of birds just grew and grew. But recently, she built a custom house in Casa Grande with a completely separate side dedicated to the rescue.

At the Grand Opening Event, Ginger offered free food, door prizes, and lots of shopping. It was a garage sale for a lot of unused stuff like excess cages or donated toys that turned out to be the wrong size. Participants were able to build toys for the rescue birds using donated skewers.

Visitors got to walk around and see all of the birds across 3 bird rooms. They got to learn about adoption and volunteer opportunities.

A recurring theme was safety. Ginger talked about all of the various safety features built into the purpose built rescue such as safety doors, predator proofing, no teflon, and no ceiling fans.

I gave 3 presentations throughout the day. It started out with a presentation about teaching parrots to be more independent by teaching them to play with bird toys. In the middle of the day, Kili gave a tricks show. And to wrap things up, Truman helped demonstrate the basics of target, step up, and flight training using positive reinforcement. A very exciting, educational, inspirational, and beneficial event.
