What should I do when I need my parrot in the cage because I gotta go to work but the parrot refuses to step up? I received this very typical question from a viewer. It's quite common that parrots especially start to act up and refuse to step up right when you need them to cooperate the most.

Unfortunately, right at that moment there isn't a whole lot you can do! Even luring them with a treat might not work. They can sense the urgency, pressure, and tension which only makes them more resistant and treats are unlikely to overcome this. So, instead, it is very important to practice some training with your parrot NOT when you are in a hurry. Whether you think your parrot needs training or not, practice step-up training exercises when there is no rush so that your parrot can be more cooperative when there is. Build up familiar methods, desire for treats, schedule, and routine so that when you are in a hurry, the parrot is helping you out rather than going against you.

Don't take your parrot out of the cage in the morning if you know you're going to feel stressed and rushed to put it away when you gotta run.
