Introducing Baby Parrots to Variety of Foods My Parrots Eat

Published on September 23, 2021

It's time for my 2 baby Congo African Grey Parrots and baby Blue and Gold Macaw to explore a variety of foods that my adult parrots are already used to eating.

In addition to a nutritious pellet diet, these birds are trying a wide ranging diet of fun and healthy foods including: micro-greens, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, spinach, red cabbage, sweet pepper, beets, carrots, butternut squash, sweet potato, apple, banana, pear, cantaloupe, cherries, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, dragonfruit, melon, flax seeds, barley, rye berries, spelt, kamut, buckwheat, millet, pumpkin seeds, variety of tree nuts, edible flowers. They are also eating every good brand of manufactured pellets including: Hagen Tropican, Zupreem Natural, Zupreem FruitBlend, Roudybush, and organic brands Harrison's and TOPs.

This is the way to best ensure that they are getting top notch nutrition now and won't become picky eaters in the long run. Manufactured diets and seasonal availability of fresh foods can change. Being too picky can mean that the baby will grow up eating unhealthy foods. The best way to prevent that is to get the baby accustomed to eating all kinds of wholesome foods from early on.

As much as these babies are enjoying these rich foods, they are also entirely skipping unhealthy junk foods such as sunflower seeds, corn, dried fruit and peanuts. By feeding foods that are good and avoiding the ones that are bad, this is the best way to raise a healthy parrot for life.

In this video, Kili my Senegal Parrot, Truman my Cape Parrot, and Rachel my Blue and Gold Macaw sample the special soaked seed and veggie chop mix that Marianna made for everyone. Then, after they gave their approval, the baby Greys and baby Macaw got to have a taste of it. The babies have been devouring it up every since. They are eating so well and I'm so proud of them.
