Clicker Conditioning Major Mitchell's Cockatoo

Pink Cockatoo learning that the sound of the clicker means treats are coming. The first step in clicker training is to get the parrot used to the sound of the clicker being paired with treats. It's important to be careful at first not to startle the bird with the sound of the clicker. Click the clicker from far away and introduce the sound from behind your back when giving treats. Once the parrot is unphased by the sound, the clicker can be clicked from anywhere and a treat given.

The clicker becomes like the sound of a treat dispenser. It's the pleasant sound meaning a treat is being served. The clicker can very effectively be used in subsequent training for teaching the Cockatoo essential skills and behaviors. This process helps build trust and a relationship.
